HOUSE PROUD

Three houses with literary pedigrees: House of the Seven Gables  in Salem, inspiration for Nathaniel Hawthorne’s novel of the same name; Orchard House in Concord, where Louisa May Alcott wrote Little Women; and Arrowhead, in Pittsfield, where Herman Melville gazed out onto Mt. Greylock as he penned Moby-Dick. Greek Revival gem: The Rotch-Jones-Duff House in New Bedford, which chronicles the social and economic life of this bustling seaport. Most colorful: The gingerbread cottages in Oak Bluffs on Martha’s Vineyard. Most legendary: The Paul Revere House in Boston, from where silversmith Paul Revere set out on his famous ride.
