Greetings!
So many boats (and ships). So many stories. Lowell’s Boat Shop has been making wooden boats since 1793, and its legendary fishing dories were the mainstay of New England fishing fleets. Its well-worn and paint-spattered shop floor still turns out finely-crafted dories and skiffs. The Essex Shipbuilding Museum sits adjacent to the shipyard that built more two-masted fishing schooners than any place in the world. Mayflower II is a replica of one of the vessels that brought colonists on a perilous journey from England to the New World; two centuries later, the USS Constitution earned its nickname of “Old Ironsides” when it roundly defeated British warships during the War of 1812.
